Balloon Care Guide
At Piece Of Cake Events, we use premium-quality balloons and professional styling techniques to create beautiful balloon displays for every celebration. While we use the highest quality products available, balloons are delicate by nature and are affected by temperature, sunlight, humidity and handling.
Following these simple care tips will help keep your balloons looking their best for as long as possible.
Helium Balloon Float Times
Float times will vary depending on balloon size, environmental conditions and whether Hi-Float has been applied.
As a general guide:
• Standard 30cm (12”) latex balloons: approximately 8–12 hours
• 30cm latex balloons with Hi-Float: approximately 24–48 hours
• Foil balloons (letters, numbers and shapes): typically several days to over one week
Please note these are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed.
What Is Hi-Float?
Hi-Float is a special solution applied inside latex balloons before inflation to significantly increase their floating time.
Although Hi-Float extends float time, performance will still vary depending on temperature, humidity and handling conditions.
Indoor vs Outdoor Balloons
Indoor balloon displays generally provide the longest-lasting results.
Outdoor balloons are exposed to:
• Direct sunlight
• Wind
• Rain
• Heat
• Humidity
These conditions may reduce the appearance and lifespan of balloons.
Whenever possible, we recommend placing balloons in shaded or protected outdoor areas.
Temperature & Weather
Balloons naturally expand and contract as temperatures change.
• Heat may cause balloons to expand and burst.
• Cold temperatures may temporarily cause balloons to shrink before returning to normal indoors.
• High humidity may reduce helium performance.
Avoid leaving balloons inside hot vehicles or in direct sunlight.
Balloon Oxidation
Latex balloons naturally oxidise when exposed to air and sunlight.
Oxidation causes balloons to develop a soft, matte or cloudy appearance. This is completely normal and does not indicate poor quality.
Chrome and darker coloured balloons may show oxidation more quickly.
Transporting Your Balloons
If collecting balloons yourself, please ensure your vehicle is suitable.
For best results:
• Use a large SUV, wagon or vehicle with fold-flat seats.
• Avoid forcing balloons into small spaces.
• Keep your vehicle cool.
• Avoid transporting balloons with sharp objects.
• Do not leave balloons inside a parked vehicle.
Once balloons have been collected or delivered, responsibility for safe transport transfers to the customer.
Safety Information
• Children should always be supervised around balloons.
• Broken balloons should be disposed of immediately.
• Never inhale helium.
• Do not release balloons into the environment.
• Keep balloons away from powerlines and electrical equipment.
Caring For Balloon Garlands & Installations
Organic balloon garlands are designed to remain in place for the duration of your event.
To maximise their appearance:
• Avoid direct sunlight.
• Keep away from heaters and air-conditioning vents.
• Do not pull or climb on balloon structures.
• Avoid contact with sharp objects.
